Valley Arts is now one of the Gibson brands but was originally founded by guitarists Mike McGuire and Al Carness in Hollywood in 1973 primarily doing repairs and renovating guitars. The company built cutom guitars, but was originally preceeded by a guitar outlet owned by Duke Miller for whom McGuire and Carness worked as trainees. Duke was their mentor and taught them all about repairing and building guitars. In 2002 Valley Arts became part of the Gibson stable and a new facility was opened to revive the brand and create a traditional custom shop environment for building guitars to order, as well as some of the original styled models.
