We've all heard the saying 'a picture tells a thousand words' and when it comes to selling your guitar and gear there were never truer words.

A good picture of what you are selling will  do much of the selling work for you, especially if your guitar has an unusual finish. We give you the opportunity of loading two photos, a thumbnail shot of your equipment and a larger more detailed photo which appears if the 'larger photo' link is selected.

The thumbnail automatically sizes to 160 pixels width and you will get a better effect if you use a horizontal photo for this picture, like the one illustrated below. The larger photo can be up to 420 pixels width. If in doubt about the photo you want to use, feel free to email us for advice at admin@guitarmart.co.uk

Sizing Photos:

Most digital cameras come with photo editing software, or you can use standard packages like Adobe Photoshop, or at a push Microsoft's Paint package. With these packages you can usually rotate the photo, size it and select the resolution. A PC screen has a resolution of 96dpi, so use low resolution photos to help reduce load times. We may reject very hi-res photos if they slow page loading. Alternatively, if scanning a photo, scan on a low res setting and then size to suit. DON'T  load them too large since it stops prospective buyers seeing your guitar/equipment properly. if in doubt use our FREE photo sizing service (see below).

Taking the Photo:

Try to take the photo on a background that shows off the guitar/equipment to best effect - if it's a black guitar try and use a light background and if a white guitar choose a darker background. Focus as sharply as you can - a blurred photo is almost useless if you are trying to sell something. If you don't have enough light to take a good shot, use photo editing software to adjust brightness and contrast.

Loading Photos:

Once you have created your advertisement you will notice there is the opportunity to add a thumbnail photo for the ad and a main picture so that the viewer can see an enlarged pic of your guitar/equipment. To load these photos select the 'Browse' button next to each and then navigate to where your guitar pic is stored on your computer and select 'OK/Add'. The thumbnail and the main pic do not have to be the same pic. When you save your ad the photos will automatically be loaded from your computer to our server for displaying with the ad.

We do offer a Free photo sizing service - just send the pics to us, we will size and sharpen them and return them to you for loading. Photos should be emailed to admin@guitarmart.co.uk quoting 'Photo Sizing' in the subject line.
