If you ask Kevin Chilcott why he started building custom ordered guitars he'll tell you truthfully it wasn't for the money. He likens it to a vocation and having an overwhelming inner driven passion for the art.
Although he studied under a master to become a Professional Luthier, it wasn't until Andy Powell of Wishbone Ash approached him to build a guitar, followed by the reality of seeing him play it live on stage, that the dream really hit home. Since then he has renovated Andy's beloved Gibson Flying V and supplied the band with numerous more custom models.

Royale do offer specific branded designs, like the Andy Powell inspired 'Angel V' (Andy has two), the futuristic 'Electra' and 'Magenta', the 'Bitocaster', similar in style to a Strat and their latest 'Swordstress'. But where Kevin really excels is in creating reality from the spark of an idea, for customer's who have envisaged their dream guitar, no matter what the design.
Royale have been creating custom guitars since 1981 and bands such as Napalm Death, the Wildcats, Onslaught, Tigertailz and Wishbone Ash have used their instruments, whether lead or bass versions.

With all his years of experience, Kevin selects the materials and recommends the hardware that will deliver what the customer is looking for, in terms of look, feel and tone.
