Priced to sell: Ultra RARE Fender prototype Starcaster solid body electric guitar - all wood finish. Condition is amazing for age. Serial number S709063. Confirmed to be made at the Fender plant in Fullerton, California in 1977. Lived in it's hard case most of the time in a smoke-free and pet-free private home studio. My dad bought this from a fellow guitarist in the early 80s and we've had it ever since. This beauty plays like a dream with the lowest action I've ever felt. Just incredible for lead.

Here is the official response from an enquiry a few years ago, Jeff Krause verified that a black paint model fetched $6,500 in the early 2000s:

That gorgeous old guitar was made at the Fender plant in Fullerton, California in 1977 or early 1978. It is a beautiful guitar! The Blue Book lists a Starcaster made during those years, but it was an arch-top guitar with F-holes and dual hum buckers. Those are worth $3,000 or more if you can find them. Your prototype has the exact same unique headstock, so they apparently came from the same plant. My belief is that you are holding a pristine example of a very rare Fender guitar. I wouldn't dare to put a price on it, but conservatively, I would say it could be worth $5,000 or more.

Absolutely incredible, super rare, one-of a kind example for serious players and collectors only. Very welcome to view in person - just message me to arrange.
